Covered studio bowl by Eddie Hopkins
Winchcombe Pottery

This covered
stoneware bowl was made by Eddie Hopkins
at Winchcombe Pottery.
The cover fits well... which is no mean feat for this type of work.
Eddie Hopkins
began his potting career learning to throw at Prinknash Abbey
between 1957-69. Then he moved on to acquire the classic english forms
from the Fishley Holland family at Clevedon, Somerset. In 1971 he was
asked to join the team at Winchcombe Pottery where his
throwing skills soon became legendry among past and present colleagues.
Although he retired in 2006 he continued to throw two days a week.
Tragically, in the 2006 floods which badly affected Winchcombe, Eddie Hopkins swallowed some
contaminated water, and subsequently died as a result.
His personal
"EH" mark (a metal carpenters stamp inherited from his grandfather)
and the Winchcombe mark can clearly be seen at the base.
