Studio pottery chawan by Xavier Maffre

This tenmoku chawan teabowl was made by Xavier Maffre at his pottery in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, Charente, France in 2009.

He started potting in 1991, and then began to produce pieces inspired by the Gallo-Romans.
More recently, after an inspirational excursion to China, he embarked upon the creation of Asian ceramics
... hence this beautiful chawan.

Maffre now fires his works in his Gallo-Roman wood kiln, and his newly built (completed in 2005) anagama kiln.

I will be posting more of his irresistible ceramics here soon ... so please call back.
